Sue Wright, Managing Director, FIEx (Grad)

Sue Wright Managing Director of Exporter Services

Sue is the inspiration and driving force behind Exporter Services.

Sue developed her wealth of experience managing international trade for Engineering and Manufacturing companies. She ensured HMRC compliance and handled multiple parties in cross-border trade. Building on her practical knowledge and postgraduate study in international trade, she launched Exporter Services in 2010.

Delivering training in international trade was her first passion, and she continues to enjoy teaching people about import and export. Her experience in training revealed a need for bespoke support services for SMEs requiring technical help with international trade. As a result, the Exporter Services helpdesk was created.

Recently, she has led the development of the company’s international trade audit and compliance checks. She feels passionate about this work, saying, “Businesses often don’t realise they could save money on export and import processes.” Sue adds, “We visited one business and, by reviewing their systems, we found they could improve their compliance and save more money than it cost for our review. That’s a win-win.” She believes international trade can be complex, so seeking expert advice is often worthwhile.

“I just love helping people import and export. Initially, people worry about the complexities or the procedures. Being able to explain it and seeing them realise they can do it themselves, or use our helpdesk for advice, is incredibly rewarding.”

Sue is a Fellow of the Institute of Export and International Trade (FIEx Grad).

Sarah Cutts, Operations Director

With her vast knowledge of international trade, Sarah has the experience to ensure that our work runs smoothly for both customers and staff.

“I love the challenge of international trade and keeping up with constant changes,” explains Sarah. “I also enjoy solving problems and making the impossible possible.”

Sarah began her career in international trade eight years ago at Exporter Services. We’re very proud of how she has developed her skills and knowledge with us. Over the years, she has worked through most aspects of international trade, including Dangerous Goods and Export Licence controls. She has learned to be adaptable, managing export and import processes for a wide variety of customers.

Additionally, Sarah set up and managed some of our largest outsourced shipping departments, which have been successfully operating for over five years.

Sarah is always eager to share her knowledge of international trade. She is also skilled at finding the right solution for any challenges our customers may face.

Amanda ten Bruggencate, Operations Manager, MIEx (Grad)

Amanda manages one of our teams. She provides outsourced shipping departments for several clients. With over 17 years of experience in international trade, she focuses on helping her team members build their expertise. Additionally, she has an unwavering eye for detail.

“I enjoy working with each team member to develop their skills,” says Amanda. “The variety of companies we work with makes each day different and interesting. For example, we deal with diverse products, from pharmaceuticals to packaging. Each submission is bespoke for that product and client.”

Amanda started her career in international trade at BAE Systems. She worked in their shipping department straight from school. Through this experience, she built her skills and studied for various qualifications. This enabled her to process dangerous goods for transport. Moreover, she developed particular expertise in Letters of Credit.

Amanda explains, “I do a lot of work on Letters of Credit. These are complex documents that deal with banking and trade regulations. Ultimately, they help companies trade internationally with confidence. I find it satisfying when we put a Letter of Credit into a bank and the payment comes through seamlessly. This, of course, makes our clients happy too.”

“I’ve been with Exporter Services for over seven years now,” she continues. “I joined the company after taking time off to focus on my children when they were younger. While balancing work and family life can be tricky, it’s great to find a role where you’re supported and can achieve that balance.”

James Tudor, Training Manager

James joined Exporter Services three years ago and has had an amazing impact on our training programme. Since then, he has contributed significantly to its growth and success.

With a strong education background, including over ten years’ experience as a teacher, James has enjoyed the change from teaching secondary pupils to training people about international trade. In fact, this shift has allowed him to apply his teaching skills in a new and exciting way.

James explains, “The courses themselves are really practical and cover what people need to know. Furthermore, our training can also provide people with the opportunity to complete the British Chambers of Commerce Foundation Award in International Trade via an assessment after the courses.”

The variety of training topics and regular updates to the requirements for international trade keep James on his toes. Additionally, he particularly enjoys teaching the Incoterms and Commodity Code Courses. This variety keeps the role both challenging and rewarding.

“It’s really rewarding to be able to help people learn the right processes for their export and import,” says James. “They often think that they may have a few issues, and during the training, you can see the lightbulb moments when they realise how to put those problems right. This, in turn, is great for them and their business.”

Over the past five years, she has developed a deep understanding of international trade. She earned her Level 3 Certification in Customs Compliance UK. This certification has solidified her role within the company.

“I enjoy challenging myself,” says Marie. “I explore the details of Tariffs. I make sure I understand all the technical aspects. This allows me to confidently advise our customers. In addition, I love building meaningful relationships with clients. It’s always rewarding when they return for further advice and support.”

Marie is passionate about supporting her team’s growth. “I care deeply about the development of the staff. I believe in nurturing all aspects of their growth. It’s fulfilling to see them take initiative. Whether through training or learning on the job, I support their efforts. I want them to feel encouraged to reach their full potential.”

She continues, “I believe our customers appreciate the expertise of our team. They also value our dedication to providing high-level service. After all, it’s the combination of both that makes a positive impact.”
