What You’ll Learn
By the end of the session, you’ll be able to:
* Explain how the Border Target Operating Model (BTOM) categorises imported food by risk
* Identify the documents you need, including health certificates, phytosanitary certificates and commercial documents
* Pre-notify consignments through IPAFFS and understand the Common Health Entry Document (CHED)
* Understand what happens at the border, including checks, fees and the Common User Charge
* Apply the requirements for products of animal origin, composite and compound products, high-risk food not of animal origin, and plants, plant products and fish
* Compare the requirements for food from the EU, the rest of the world and the Republic of Ireland
* Understand the personal import rules for travellers bringing food into the UK
* Recognise the customs and tariff considerations specific to food imports
* Understand the upcoming UK-EU SPS Agreement and how it will change the process
You’ll leave knowing which documents, notifications and checks apply to your products, how the requirements differ depending on where the food comes from, and how to avoid the border delays and rejected consignments that catch out unprepared importers.
How It Works
* Format: Live, interactive online training via Zoom, with Q&A and practical activities
* Duration: Half day — 9:30am to 12:30pm or 1:30pm to 4:30pm
* If possible, bring examples of the food products you currently import (or plan to) — this makes the practical activities directly relevant to your business
